Krissy mays, CST

I offer supportive and transformational bodywork sessions for families and individuals.  My work, grounded in Craniosacral Therapy, is safe and gentle. I focus on structure and energy, and invite healing on a deep level. My clients also find the incorporation of other modalities to be beneficial to their healing.  As we have come to know, deep, lasting healing occurs when we treat the WHOLE person – Mind, Body and Spirit. It is my commitment to listen to your body and to support the innate health that is within you.

DICSCOVER CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Light pressure used is generally less than 5 grams (the weight of a nickel). CST works primarily with the soft tissues, membranes and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord; the core of your nervous system. The fluid within the membranes is continuously draining and refilling. This creates gentle, rhythmic, expanding and contracting movements that can be felt anywhere in the body by a trained therapist. These movements are the craniosacral rhythm. They occur at a rate of about six to twelve complete cycles per minute. I gain valuable information about where the body would most benefit from change by monitoring the craniosacral rhythm. The source of pain or loss of function is not always obvious. CST helps release restrictions within the body’s three dimensional web of fluid and connective tissue, which extends out into every party of the body.  It is essentially a whole body approach.

CRANIOACRAL THERAPY BENIFITS

CST can help uncover the root cause(s) of disease symptoms and emotional challenges by enhancing the connection between the recipient and their inner wisdom.  It has successfully been used to treat such diverse conditions as stress, emotional difficulties, fatigue, headaches, TMJ, depression, back pain, joint immobility, neck pain, sinus congestion, migraines, learning disabilities and the residual effects of trauma and negative touch experiences.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A CRANIOSACRAL SESSION

You rest fully-clothed on a massage table while I monitor your craniosacral rhythm with my hands. I conduct other gentle assessments and correct the sources of pain and dysfunction using gentle manipulative techniques. This sets the stage for your body to most efficiently use its own power to heal. Because the body exerts considerable energy to adapt to its restrictions, most people find the sessions to be deeply relaxing. Each session is tailored directly to the needs of the client.  With Krissy’s background in energy medicine and massage, she integrates other modalities as they are needed.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma. This approach is based on a deep understanding of nervous system physiology and is a potent psycho biological approach to resolving the symptoms of trauma and chronic stress.

We store our life experiences in our bodies. CST techniques are gentle but powerful, and the effects go deep without stimulating the body’s defenses.  They can easily unlock the residue of trauma stored in the tissues, whether it is physical or emotional trauma.

This unlocking and facilitated resolution process is supported by the extensive background

in energetic medicine and advanced training, which shares many techniques and approaches with traditional craniosacral therapy.

You are in control of how deeply you would like to engage this aspect of healing in our sessions.

Therapeutic imagery and dialogue along with other verbal, energetic and physical support techniques to increase awareness and initiate change. This work promotes the discovery and gentle release of the restrictions that contribute to pain and dysfunction.

Emotional release is not necessarily a painful event. It can be a friendly negotiation between you and your various parts.  When we cling to our once-helpful coping mechanisms after they cease to be useful, they reemerge as sources of pain and loss of function.

Clients report greater clarity, peacefulness and insight along with positive change in their physical symptoms. The body needs to tell its story, and for the story to be fully heard. This work often helps turn the key to a felt sense of connection and understanding of the active role that we play in the healing process.  It helps connect us to our hearts; the source of healing.

Some clients receiving craniosacral also work in collaboration with a licensed counselor who recognizes the inseparability of mind and body. Bodywork is in no way a substitute for working with a mental health professional.

PREGNANCY & POSTPARTUM CARE

Craniosacral Therapy along with integrated bodywork can be very beneficial during pregnancy.  CST can help to release soft-tissue restrictions in the body’s system, particularly around the sacrum and pelvis.  Additionally, old injuries from surgeries or other pelvic issues can be resolved, ultimately setting the body up for it’s most optimum birthing experience.   The Bodywork I utilize usually encompasses a variety of manual techniques to help reduce the pain and stress in both the body and mind.

I strongly recommend the second-trimester being best time to start the healing work.

 HOLISTIC WOMB HEALING

This work addresses postpartum symptoms, birth trauma, pelvic pain, fertility, pregnancy loss, sexual, physical, or emotional abuse history, and sexual health.

Womb Healing incorporates abdominal massage, Craniosacral Therapy, manual lymphatic drainage and gentle visceral manipulation, restoring the body to it’s natural balance, thus supporting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi energy. This brings health and restoration on the physical level, treating menstrual imbalances, infertility, reproductive health challenges, digestive issues, and pain, while also supporting health on the emotional and energetic levels. This work can be especially supportive when healing from pregnancy loss, abortion, stillbirth and birth trauma.

MOM & BABY INTEGRATION SESSIONS

Postpartum craniosacral therapy and birth integration sessions can help you heal and integrate your birth experience, assist with breastfeeding challenges, and support infant attachment and bonding. Receiving support is especially key for healing from challenging births, complications, and trauma to more fully experience the feelings of love, bonding, and attachment.

Both Mom and baby receive a full, gentle Craniosacral therapy session in the same visit.

OUR WORK TOGETHER

Often in these sessions, babies are supported to show their experience of their birth process to their parents with a sense of spaciousness and support so that they can safely feel their feelings, unwind any traums, and begin to re-pattern their experience to find that natural impulse underneath any layers of interventions, trauma, or challenges that may have occurred.  Sessions may be done with baby skin to skin on mom to facilitate a dual treatment for mom and baby.

If you are nursing or struggling to nurse we can easily integrate this into the sessions, (learn more about this under babies and children link.)

With guided support the journey to the breast unfolds as a natural therapeutic process for integrating the birth story, nursing, and allowing for optimal bonding and attachment.  This is absolutely beautiful to experience.
